Travis Pastrana Skydiving Without a Parachute

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I was just watching Late Night With Conan O’Brien and one of his guests was motocross/baja/rally car dude Travis Pastrana. They showed a clip of him jumping out of a plane without a parachute. Here is the clip:

Rocktoberfest. Yes!

Colorado Rockies just swept their way to the World Series!! How exciting for Denver. How exciting for Colorado and its Rockies fans. Who could have imagined the Colorado Rockies would be here a few months ago. Corpas and Fuentes’ precision, Holliday’s strength, Tulowitzki’s glove, Matsui’s consistent batting, Fogg, Morales, and of course Helton. With these guys playing, I can see how they got there. I’ve been here in Colorado since the start of the franchise. This is just simply incredible. I can’t believe it. I’m happy for the Rockies and the city of Denver. The World Series in Denver, and just down the street from me.

Heaps of stuff going on.

The Colorado Rockies have made it to the NLCS Championship and may very well go to the World Series. Crossing my fingers now that my beloved Padres are out. Unfortunate for the NY Yankees, I was hoping to see Roger Clemens in the World Series on last time. Hideki Matsui is doing really well for the Rockies as is Matt Holliday. Some say Holliday will earn an MVP and the batting title.

The San Diego Chargers STOMPED on the Denver Broncos this past weekend, they seem to be back in usual form. It’s certainly fall, the leaves are changing color, the temperate has dropped and I just heard Arapahoe Basin is opening tomorrow for skiing. We had our first frost the other night, boy was it cold. What a way to start off October.

My laptop keeps locking up and crashing. It is an IBM Thinkpad T41p with an ATI Fire GL video card. I thought for the longest time it was a power issue, maybe a bad battery or AC adapter. I thought it was a power issue because the only way to reboot after the failure was to remove the battery and power up without it. It seems when I updated a lot of firmware and software, the video card drivers were also updated. One of the settings in the video card or driver was causing either it to overheat or cause the system to freeze. Maybe both. After a week of tinkering I think I’ve isolated the problem to the graphics accelerator. I ended up disabling “Write Combining”, whatever that is and it seems to have corrected the problem. Since I’ve changed that setting it has yet to crash again. But I’ve been really cautious with this system and constantly backing up data, mainly photos. But I’m due for a new system now and I really want an MacBook Pro, but it’s cost with all the options I want it driving me away. Maybe at some point I’ll get a Mac, maybe the new iMac. But for now I’m checking out the line of Toshibas with HD-DVD and dual hard drives. I’ll have to do a little more research but I think the Toshiba can be configured in different RAID formats. The only problem is that Toshibas are hefty pieces of machinery, more of a desktop replacement rather than a “laptop”.

Did Matt Holliday Touch Home Plate?

Buffs Up Chargers Down

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

This past weekend my CU Buffs tore up Miami 42-0. No, not the Hurricanes, Miami Ohio RedHawks. Yup, Miami Ohio. What the heck!?!? Yes, Miami Ohio, no wonder it was 42-0.

Sunday was such a letdown, Chargers losing to Green Bay 24-31. They were so close, but the Packers really kept LT down to only 62 yards and one TD. I blame this loss on the new head coach. I think some heads are gonna roll in San Diego this week as they try and figure out what happened.

arrrgh! my internet connection was lost and I lost the whole blog entry. I’m in my bedroom munching on some Honey Bunches Of Oats and using my HTC Dash as my internet connection. It’s slow.

Double Disappointment

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Once again, another disappointment. The San Diego Chargers lost the other night to the New England Patriots. What a sorry performance by the Chargers. I hope this is not a sign of things to come and I’m unsure about our new head coach. The only excitement on Sunday nights football games was the Broncos game. What a great “time out” call by Mike Shanahan in overtime against the Raiders. Lets just say it was perfectly timed and helped push the Broncos into a win situation. Jason Elam’s stock is rising, thats for sure.

Some thoughts today:

I want to grow tea plants.

I want one of the new Macs… can’t decide between the 24″ iMac or the 15′ MacBook Pro.

I love my new TV

I want to go on another vacation. It’s turning into fall and starting to cool down. I’d like to go somewhere warm.

I want to create more recipes. The roasted pepper, roasted tomato pasta was delicious the other day.

I want to go camping one last time before it gets unbearably cold in the mountains.

Disappointment

I went to the CU Buffs game yesterday against Florida State up in Boulder. We arrived in the city limits about 40 minutes before the game, but due to the enormous amount of traffic we didn’t try and park on campus. We were stuck in bad traffic on 36 into Boulder and ended up parking in a neighborhood. We walked swiftly about 5 blocks to the stadium but we still missed kickoff and seeing Ralphie. I was surprised at how many people were at this game. It was the first home game of the season and the stadium was packed. The stadium was enlarged since the last time I was at a game about a decade ago. they probably added a few thousand more seats. All the students were wearing black t-shirts and had a new chant since I was there last. We had pretty good seats, 50 yard line about 39 row back. Unfortunately the Buffs lost to the Seminoles. It was a horrible game to watch, we almost got shutout.

Padres

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Went to the Colorado Rockies game today against the San Diego Padres. Of course I was rooting for the Padres, I’ve always been a fan. We have another good chance this year to make it to the playoffs. To my disappointment the Padres lost 4-2. I was seated in Club Level on the first base side close to home plate. Great seats, lots of fly balls within just a few feet of my seat which got my heart racing each time. It was my first and probably my last game of this season. The weather was horrible, temperatures in Colorado dropped significantly and the wind really picked up in the stadium. I had to wear jeans and a hoodie, while just yesterday I was wearing shorts. While at the game I heard I missed an awesome last second field goal by Jason Elam for a Broncos win. The San Diego Chargers won too which lifted my spirits after the Padres loss. LT rushed for a TD and also passed for a TD.  Awesome!

Sad Panda

CU lost to ASU 33-14. Really bad game, we should have done better. There were so many opportunities given to CU, turnovers, penalties against ASU and so many dropped balls. Going to the game next week in Boulder against Florida State. Hopefully the Buffs will correct all their problems and have a good show ready for next week. PS. Cody Hawkins was 60-0 in all his football games until todays loss.
